CSLEA Officers and Directors Meet For 2025 Third Quarter Board Meeting

Special guests included candidate for Assembly District 72 Gracey Van Der Mark, Assemblymember Maggy Krell, and Candidate for Governor Katie Porter

SACRAMENTO – California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) officers and directors met at CSLEA headquarters August 26, 2025 for their third quarterly board meeting of the year. In addition to receiving updates from consultants and staff, the board had the opportunity to listen to presentations from, and interact with, Candidate for Assembly District 72 Gracey Van Der Mark, Assemblymember Maggy Krell, and Candidate for Governor Katie Porter. 

“Bringing in to CSLEA headquarters elected officials or those seeking to be elected is a perfect opportunity for our directors to meet the candidates, ask them questions and identify their platforms.  I thank them for taking time out of their busy schedules to talk to us about law enforcement, public safety and public service issues,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona.

The candidates also discussed issues related to housing development, homelessness, sex trafficking, consumer protections, the State budget, and funding for government workforce.

President Barcelona opened the Board of Directors meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for fallen law enforcement officers and members of the military.

Updates and items of discussion at the board meeting:

  • The board received an update from CSLEA Director of Communications and Public Affairs Teri Cox regarding updates to the website and mobile app, material being prepared for the 2025 CSLEA membership conference in October, and the announcement of CSLEA’s 2025 scholarship awards. 
  • CFO Ricardo Sanchez informed the board that registration is underway for CSLEA’s conference scheduled for October 24-25th.  He asked directors to encourage their members to attend.
  • CFO Ricardo Sanchez provided the CFO’s 3rd quarter report.  He presented the board with the financial statements, expenses, revenue, assets, liabilities, equity, and interest. 
  • CSLEA Legislative Advocate Shane LaVigne reported that the legislature reconvened and is back in session after summer recess.  Redistricting issues were the focus upon their return. took up most of the week at the capitol.  LaVigne further discussed with the board, bills that affect CSLEA members and provided updates on the current status of those bills.
  • CSLEA Political Consultant Peter Mitchell briefed the board on the current federal, state, and local political climate as well as issues affecting CSLEA members.  He further discussed candidates and potential candidates for governor, polling, redistricting, reapportionment, gerrymandering, energy, wildfires, contract extensions, and California’s budget deficit. 
  • CSLEA Membership Committee Chair Ricardo Sanchez updated the board on the total number of CSLEA members.  He asked directors to contact him for requests to meet with members at their trainings or meetings.
  • CSLEA Scholarship Committee Chair Kenneth Ehrman informed the board that the 2025 scholarship process has been completed, the winners were announced, and the checks were schedule to be distributed.  He thanked the committee for their work in the scoring process.
  • CSLEA Chief Counsel Kasey Clark disseminated the Legal Representation Committee (LRC) and Legal Defense Fund (LDF) reports for review by the board.  He briefed the board on current LDF and LRC cases.

Before concluding the meeting, CSLEA directors entered an executive session for an update on the status of collective bargaining with the State. 

The CSLEA board meets four times a year.   The next CSLEA board meeting is scheduled for October 23, 2025.
