BUTTE COUNTY – On September 2, 2025, CSLEA Affiliate State Parks Peace Officers of California (SPPOAC) President Matt Yarbrough, CSLEA Chief Counsel Kasey Clark, and Membership Representative Marco Castro conducted a new employee orientation for those in training to become State Parks rangers and peace officer-lifeguards. Their presentation took place on the first day of academy instruction for 41 Parks peace officer ranger cadets and lifeguards.
Yarbrough stressed the importance of focus on the essential tasks for completion of the academy as a necessary prerequisite for a career that provided great opportunity for those who graduate, and reiterated his availability for those who might encounter obstacles.
Clark provided an overview on the benefits CSLEA provides to members and addressed recent accomplishments in bargaining for a percentage-based education incentive in the Unit 7 Contract as well as upcoming discussions with CalHR regarding the possible creation of a Range C salary scale addition for Parks peace officers. Clark also pointed out that new cadets, upon submission of an application for membership, would be eligible to participate in the PORAC Anthem Blue Cross health plan, a benefit limited to Unit 7 peace officer CSLEA members.
Castro spoke about the CSLEA group term life insurance benefit which is included in the monthly dues amount.
As a result of the presentation all 41 cadets elected to become members.

“It is awesome to see that despite being overwhelmed with a ton of new information, the cadets realized that it is absolutely necessary in these times to have legal defense based on the difficult demands placed on our profession. These future officers will be welcome additions to the field which is struggling to fill positions,” said Yarbrough. “On behalf of CSLEA and SPPOAC we wish them success and I will do everything within my power to help them succeed.”
