RENO – On October 25, 2025, California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) directors, consultants, staff, and members embarked upon day two of CSLEA’s General Membership Conference at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. Members had the opportunity to attend classes addressing PTSD, Advanced Site Rep Training, and Retirement Planning. The conference concluded with a CSLEA-hosted dinner, awards and a raffle.

“We were very fortunate to have Instructor Kate Pieper, LMFT, join us for an in-depth look at post-traumatic stress disorder, how to identify the warning signs, and ways to move forward in life as someone who thrives, and not just survives. Our CSLEA members have very stressful jobs and can suffer from burnout and stress, and Kate presented some real solutions to work-life balance as it pertains to our mental health,” said CSLEA President Alan Barcelona. “We are grateful to her for addressing this very important topic.”
The three-hour session was followed by afternoon classes that included Advanced Site rep Training, and Retirement Planning. Both classes were well attended.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a formal Advance Site Rep class, and I was happy to see that it was so well attended and members were asking our attorneys some very good questions. Thank you to CSLEA Supervising Counsel Dave De La Riva, and Senior Counsels Andrea Perez, Ryan Navarre and Kja Harper-Gopaul for sharing their insights into various workplace scenarios and presenting to our members, their rights in the workplace and how best to handle various conflicts.”

The conference concluded with a CSLEA-hosted dinner, awards and a raffle, which gave members a chance to socialize, share some laughter, dine, and applaud those who received awards and prizes.

CSLEA Senior Vice President Tina Brazil presented awards to CSLEA attorneys Dave De La Riva and Andrea Perez for their years of dedicated service to CSLEA and its members. De La Riva and Perez have taken on an increased workload and assisting with acclimating CSLEA’s newest attorney to CSLEA and its work protecting members.
CHP-PSDA directors also presented an award to Perez as she is the single CSLEA point of contact for all CHP public safety dispatchers and operators throughout the state. The directors, many whom will be retiring from CHP in the near future, have worked with Perez for years on issues impacting their members and wanted to share their appreciation for her passion, dedication and guidance, and for defending CHP-PSDA members when needed.

The awards were followed by a fun raffle in which members in attendance received beautiful CSLEA wood wall hangings, coffee mugs and beverage containers with gift cards, gift baskets, and challenge coins. Lots of laughs were shared and photos taken as the CSLEA conference came to a close.

CSLEA thanks each and every member who attended and became more familiar with the work CSLEA conducts on their behalf. It is always an excellent opportunity for CSLEA leadership and staff to meet members in person and exchange thoughts, ideas, and possible solutions.

“Once again, a very huge thank you to CSLEA Senior Vice President Tina Brazil for putting this all together. Our staff, CSLEA Membership Coordinator Rainie Brazil and CSLEA Legal Secretary Sherri Elrod did a lot of behind-the-scenes work, as well as staffed the membership booth for three days. To all of our volunteers who helped with registration, thank you for getting our members situated with their conference check-in and material. We truly appreciate your time and commitment to our association and to our members,” said CSLEA President Barcelona.
