“Law enforcement agencies working together, and with determination even years after a crime has been committed, can produce results such as this. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family as they begin the road of criminal justice.”

AMADOR COUNTY – On March 16, 2026, the Amador and San Joaquin County District Attorneys announced the indictment of Joshua Martinez in connection with the 2019 disappearance and murder of Victoria Marquina, 16, of Sutter Creek. A criminal grand jury in Stockton returned a true bill of indictment, charging Martinez with murder and three counts of sexual offenses.
Martinez now has a court appearance scheduled in Stockton on April 6th for a further arraignment and bail review. He remains held without bail at the San Joaquin County Jail.
Martinez, age 21 at the time of Marquina’s disappearance, was in an unlawful dating relationship with Marquina. She was last seen in San Joaquin County.
Over the course of a lengthy investigation spearheaded by San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Eduardo Rodriguez, supported by the Amador County District Attorney and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office, evidence developed indicating that Victoria became the victim of a homicide outside of Amador County.
Investigative agencies included the Amador County District Attorney’s office thanked the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and its Bureau of Investigations; the Amador County Sheriff’s Office; and the California Department of Justice, particularly the Violent Crime Investigative Support Section, for their professionalism and diligence in working this investigation since 2019.
