“This team of law enforcement officers works to ensure that young people can have their celebrations and be safe at the same time.  Thank you to all who worked over the weekend to assist.”

– CSLEA President Alan Barcelona

SAN LUIS OBISPO – On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the San Luis Obispo Police Department, along with 21 allied agencies, staged personnel in the neighborhoods adjacent to the Cal Poly University campus in response to the “St. Fratty’s Day” celebration.

The public safety response in 2025 was successful in reducing the impact to the neighborhood in prior years. San Luis Obispo Police t and Cal Poly University have been collaborating for the past several years to change the neighborhood culture and create an opportunity for students to celebrate in a safer manner.

The City of San Luis Obispo utilizes safety enhancement zones during traditionally busy party weekends to help curb dangerous and illegal behavior. During the safety enhancement zone, administrative fines for noise, unruly gathering, open container and public urination are doubled and range between $700 to $1000. The zone dates for this year included March 6th – 9th, March 13th – 16th and March 17th. SLO PD conducted an expansive outreach campaign to inform community members and students about the safety enhancement zone and neighborhood enforcement.

Cal Poly University provided a large concert on campus in the early hours of the morning that began at 5:00 am and concluded at 9:00 am. There were no attempts at gathering in the streets in the neighborhoods, and closed roadways were reopened by 9:30 am.

Between Friday at midnight through 10:00 am on Saturday, March 14th, SLO PD had one arrest downtown for assault and 19 citations for various nuisance order violations. Additional breakdown of this data will be provided at the conclusion of the safety enhancement zone on March 18th.

SLO PD thanks its agency partners that supported this years’ response including:

Atascadero Police Department

Atascadero State Hospital
