
STOCKTON -On April 22,2026, members of the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Donald Lee Clark, 80, of Stockton for the 1994 murders of Eugene Cates and Lawrence Loehr.
On May 23, 1994, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Stockton Police Department officers responded to the 10000 block of Thornton Road regarding a report of a person who had been assaulted. Upon arrival, officers located two deceased victims, Eugene Cates and Lawrence Loehr. During the course of the investigation into their murders, evidence was submitted for analysis. Numerous individuals were interviewed; however, no suspect was identified.
Stockton Police Department Cold Case detectives, in collaboration with the San Joaquin County Cold Case Task Force and the California Department of Justice Bureau of Forensic Services continued to seek justice for the victims and their families.
Through renewed investigative efforts, the Cold Case team identified Clark as a suspect in the murders of Cates and Loehr.
