“Law enforcement officers know the importance of working together, whether it involves the pursuit of and search for a suspect, or emergency response and back up. We appreciate that State Park rangers who are in the area in which local officers are investigating a crime, respond to assist.”

CARMEL – On May 9, 2026, witnesses and law enforcement personnel from multiple agencies worked together to locate and arrest a juvenile who attempted to rob a visitor to Monterey County.
At about 10:30 a.m., Monterey County Sheriff’s Offrice deputies were called to the 26300 block of Carmel Rancho Lane for a report of a robbery. Multiple people called 911 to report that a juvenile had attempted to steal a purse and other personal items from a woman. It was also being reported that the juvenile was being chased by a witness.
Deputies arrived and located the juvenile suspect who led them on a foot pursuit through local Carmel businesses in the Carmel Rancho Shopping Center. The juvenile eluded arrest. Thanks to information provided by additional witnesses and assistance from Carmel Police Department Officers, the juvenile was found and detained near Carmel Middle School. Custody was turned over to Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies.
The suspect was identified as a 15-year-old male juvenile.
At the time of the investigation, the victim in this incident had left the area. The victim contacted the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office the following day and confirmed she had been the victim of an attempted robbery.
The suspect was released to the custody of his father and a request for prosecution against the juvenile was forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office for attempted robbery and resisting/delaying a peace officer.
MCSO extended its gratitude to the Carmel Police Department and California State Parks rangers for their assistance during the investigation.
