The California Association of Law Enforcement Employees (CALEE) consists of: Criminal Identification Specialists, Criminal Intelligence Specialists, Field Representatives and Security Officers with the Department of Justice, Museum Security Officers, Lifeguards, State Park Peace Officer Lifeguard Cadets, Livestock Inspectors, Insurance Compliance Officers with the Department of Insurance, Milk and Dairy Foods Inspectors, Communications Operators, and Measurement Standards Specialists.
The members within CALEE provide the public with essential law enforcement support. Additionally, because of their unique job duties and services provided to assist law enforcement agencies throughout California, they are largely considered the backbone of law enforcement.
Members within the CALEE Affiliate perform vital law enforcement services such as:
- fingerprinting analysis
- missing persons reports
- maintaining files of persons wanted for crimes
- the processing of concealed firearms licenses
- the maintaining of registered sex and narcotic offenders
- sealing of criminal records evaluating criminal intelligence information
- aiding in identification, investigation and prosecution of criminals
- providing information to assist in coordinating investigations between jurisdictions
- providing expert consultation to law enforcement agencies
- testifying in court
- assisting law enforcement at crime scenes
- interpreting regulations and statutes relating to security and privacy
- acting as a liaison for local law enforcement agencies
- performing audits to verify compliance with various state and federal statutes and regulations
- investigating allegations of misuse of criminal records
- maintaining order and security at Department of Justice facilities
- using and maintaining assigned equipment such as tear gas, body-armor and firearms
- patrolling and guarding the California Museum of Science and Industry buildings and grounds
- performing aquatic services at state ocean and inland beaches, underwater parks, and recreation areas
- detecting and rescuing of persons or vessels in distress
- operating, inspecting and performing maintenance on emergency rescue equipment and vehicles
- watching over swimmers, bathers and visitors in and around a swimming pool area to prevent accidents and loss of life
- taking part in first aid, lifesaving, and swimming drills
- consulting and advising livestock owners on cattle importation requirements and proper sanitary procedures
- supervising the cleaning and disinfection of premises where livestock are kept
- investigating violations of State laws or regulation pertaining to livestock
- ensuring compliance with the California Insurance Code and other insurance laws related to rating, underwriting, and claims issues mediating complaints between consumers, their agents, and insurers with complaints
- enforcing of state laws and regulations concerning the quality and safety of milk products
