SAN DIEGO – On November 14, 2024, California Association of Criminal Investigators (CACI) President George Tiongson and California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Legal Counsel David De La Riva participated in a CACI hosted membership luncheon at the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) offices in San Diego. CSLEA Investigator members from the Department of Social Services and DHCS attended.
During the meeting, Tiongson and De La Riva answered questions concerning the benefits of being a dues-paying CSLEA member, including access to the CSLEA Legal staff and the value of CSLEA’s Political Action Committee which promotes legislation and endorses political candidates that benefit CSLEA members.
The importance of having access to CSLEA Legal Defense Fund attorneys was stressed. The Legal Defense Fund is in place to ensure that CSLEA members involved in critical incidents, e.g., officer-involved shootings, have attorneys throughout the State available to them in their time of need. Critical incident situations resulting in CSLEA members being referred to Legal Defense Fund attorneys were also provided.
“Thank you to our members who joined us for lunch and conversation, and to CSLEA Counsel Dave De La Riva for making himself available to answer questions. I believe our members gained valuable insight into why union membership is so important and learned a bit more about the work that CSLEA does on behalf of our members,” said Tiongson.
