Khos started his career in public service with the Bureau of Automotve Repair in 2018 as a Program Representatve I in the Audits and Inspections Branch. As a member of the Audits and Inspections Branch Khos performed inspections that were used to survey the effectiveness of California’s emissions
reductioon program, better known as Smog Check. Khos would eventually move to the Bureau’s Sacramento Field Office as an Enforcement Field Investigator. Consumer protection is a top priority for the Bureau, and the field office plays a crucial role in protecting California consumers. Khos investigated numerous consumer complaints and mediated disputes between automotive repair facilities and consumers. On average, the Bureau recovers approximately 5 million dollars a year in refunds and settlements for California consumers. Khos remains with the Bureau and is currently in the Enforcement Operations Branch as a Program Representative III.
In 2022, Khos was elected to the CARII Board of Directors. While working tirelessly to learn the collective bargaining landscape between employees and the largest state in the US, Khos noticed the disparity of benefits between new employees and seasoned state employees. The seasoned employees had much better benefits that offset the lower salaries offered by the state in recent years; Meanwhile, industry benefits were rapidly increasing and pay packages outpaced the general salary increases offered by the state.
Those who were new to state service, and even some who were seasoned, quickly realized the allure of state employment was no longer a reality. Khos noticed this would be a challenge for those who were near the end of their careers in state service, and similarly to those who recently joined the state to perform this essential public service. To protect California consumers, we need to attract the most talented, hard-working, and professional individuals to the state. Fighting for CARII and CSLEA members isn’t just a fight for the benefit of state employees, it is a fight for the benefit of California consumers.
