I have been a CARII board member since 2016 and currently hold the board position of Treasurer.
I am currently a Program Representative I for the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Field Operations and Enforcement Division. I work from the Riverside field office that covers the Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties). BAR actively investigates fraudulent business practices, environmental crimes, negligence, and consumer complaints against automotive repair facilities and Smog Check testing stations. I have continuously worked in the Riverside office for 20 years. During that time, I have been involved in the BAR’s Quality Assurance program, Consumer Assistance Program, Drag-Net Program, Smog Check enforcement operations, and formal investigations of Automotive Repair shops, Smog Check stations, and Smog Check inspectors that commit acts of fraud and serious environmental crimes.
Before joining state service in 1999, I was in the automotive industry for approximately 31 years working as a Master Automotive Technician throughout Southern California from the LA Harbor, Long Beach, Lakewood, Cypress, Fullerton, Anaheim, Garden Grove, Ontario, Norco, and Riverside areas.
I currently hold state Smog Check Repair Technician and Inspector licenses and earned my first MVPC License in 1974. I was first Certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE /ASE) in 1976 and have held Master Technician status for over thirty-five years. I taught Automotive Technology classes at Mt. San Jacinto College for approximately 3 years.
I joined the board hoping to help my fellow investigators and inspectors maintain a livelihood with the income and benefits they deserve. It is my hope that I can help my fellow state Investigators and Inspectors be aware of their rights and make working for the great State of California a career path they are glad to have chosen.
I enjoy the outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking, geology, rock hounding, prospecting, and off-road exploration. I guess that’s why I chose a career that helps keep California’s air cleaner and healthier.
