My name is Steve Fulton and I am a Public Safety Dispatcher at the Indio Dispatch Center. I started with CHP in April of 1998 and currently serve as the CSLEA site representative at the Indio Dispatch center. I was elected to the CHP-PSDA board of directors as the Border Division representative in 2007 and have also served as the Secretary and Treasurer since 2009. I also am a certified trainer, and enjoy passing my knowledge and experience on to new dispatchers. I have more than 25 years of experience in public safety, previously working as a firefighter for seven years. I enjoy serving my community by getting people the help they need as quickly as possible. I also serve our CHP officers as the voice on the radio that endeavors to bring them home safely every day. My job as a board member of our dispatcher association is to promote our chosen career with members of the department and our community. At the same time, our board communicates with management to facilitate changes that will ultimately help dispatchers be able do their job more efficiently.
After high school, I attended UC Riverside and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I then attended and graduated from the Crafton Hills Fire Academy as a certified Firefighter 1, Emergency Medical Technician, and am 1 class short of an additional Associates Degree in Fire Science. During my schooling, I “worked” as a fabricator and pit crew member of a five time champion off–road racing team. In 1998, after I joined the CHP, I won my own off–road championship as a driver and still enjoy off–roading my trucks every chance I get. I have also worked as a professional driving instructor at racing schools around the country. My wife, Jamy, is an accountant and we have been married for 10 years. We both have volunteered for years at many CSLEA events held around the state. If you have ever attended a CSLEA member appreciation BBQ, chances are we checked you in!
