FRESNO – When 11 new California Department of Justice (DOJ) special agents took a break for lunch at their academy at the Fresno Police Department Regional Training Center May 10, 2016, ASA-DOJ President Al Cardwood took the opportunity to welcome them to their new positions and to association membership.
“There’s a lot going on right now for these special agents,” said Cardwood. “Introducing myself and answering any questions they may have about the Association of Special Agents-DOJ, can help as they transition into their DOJ careers.”
Cardwood updated the group on current contract negotiations with the State and spoke about the importance of having access to a proven Legal Defense Fund (LDF). Joining Cardwood at the New Employee Orientation (NEO) were California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Member Services Field Representatives George Pina and Marco Castro, who addressed the benefits and services CSLEA offers its members.
“We want our new special agent members to know who to contact at CSLEA should they need assistance,” said Pina. “We want to be sure they have beneficiaries on their basic $15,000 life insurance plan that is included with membership, that they are aware of CSLEA and Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) scholarships, benefits and services. We also want them to know how easy it is to contact us, via our app, whether they need our Southern or Northern office or the LDF 24 hour emergency line. Their admonishment statement is also something they can quickly access on our CSLEA app.”
