SOLANO COUNTY – On July 12, 2016, special agents with the California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Gaming Control seized gambling equipment at internet cafes in Fairfield and Vallejo.
At the Talk N Win in Fairfield, special agents seized 20 illegal gambling computers, shutting down the business. They also seized 19 illegal gambling computers from LM Connexions in Vallejo.
According to a Fairfield Police Department press release, both establishments were internet cafes that used sweepstakes gambling software to create interactive gambling-themed games that the company represents as lawful promotional sweepstakes for play, but constitutes illegal gambling under state laws.
“We appreciate the relationship that we have with the California Department of Justice Bureau of Gaming Control and the assistance they have provided us and our efforts to stop illegal gambling within the City of Fairfield,” the release stated.
Talk N Win was previously shut down in August 2015. Fairfield police learned that the business had re-opened in the same location and was conducting the same illegal gambling operation. Detectives from the Fairfield Police Department assisted special agents with their investigation into suspected illegal activities taking place at Talk N Win.
“Local law enforcement departments know they can call upon DOJ special agents to address problem areas including illegal gambling, violent gangs, weapons in the hands of criminals and illegal drug activity,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Illegal gambling establishments often attract the wrong crowd and contribute to an increased number of calls for service in the area.”
