MORENO VALLEY – On July 24, 2018, Moreno Valley Police officers and California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents busted three men who purchased alcohol for an under-age decoys in a shoulder tap operation. The decoy asked the individuals to buy alcohol for them because they were not 21. Cited were James Bryant, 47; Rodney Berkley, 27, and Ivan Cabrera, 24 all of Moreno Valley.
ABC agents also worked with Hanford Police officers on July 26, 2018 to ensure store clerks are checking driver licenses, so they are not selling alcohol to customers under 21. In this type of operation, agents and officers send in an under-age decoy who attempts to purchase alcohol. Decoys attempted to purchase alcohol in approximately 20 businesses, two of which sold the alcohol to the decoy. The clerks at these businesses are cited and the businesses face fines or other penalties.
“It is important that ABC agents and local law enforcement officers keep up this work to educate the public as well as store clerks and owners,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “This proactive approach keeps young people under 21 from acquiring alcohol and likely prevents them from driving under the influence, possible vehicle accidents and bad decisions that can lead to jail.”
