Sacramento – During the month of July 2018, investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) caught 114 people misusing disabled person parking placards during 21 enforcement operations throughout the state. Investigators confiscated the placards that were being misused and cited the offenders. The misdemeanor citation carries a $250 to $1,000 fine. The violation will appear on the offender’s driver record.
“One driver illegally using a disabled persons parking placard is one driver too many,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “I, along with many Californians, applaud this enforcement effort. It’s simply heartbreaking to see people who truly need a parking space that is close to the entrance of a business or event, circling a parking lot and then having to park a distance away.”
