Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) caught 491 people misusing disabled person parking placards during 14 enforcement operations in September 2018. The majority of those offenses took place during five enforcement operations held at the Los Angeles County Fair that resulted in 443 citations. Offenders had their placard confiscated and face fines that range from $250 to $1,000.
“It’s so important to educate the public about the necessity for convenient and close parking for those who truly need it,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “There are just too many people misusing these placards and not enough designated spaces as it is, for those who need disabled parking. Thank you to DMV investigators, who are sworn peace officers, for conducting these enforcement operations.”
Enforcement operations were held in both Northern and Southern California, with the results posted below.
Since July 1, 2018, DMV investigators have verified 5,422 disabled person parking placards and found 640 of them being misused.
