PALO ALTO – On February 2, 2021, California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents posted a Notice of Suspension at Ernie’s Liquors on El Camino Real in Palo Alto. The license has been ordered revoked, with the revocation stayed for six months to allow for an ownership transfer approved by the ABC. Meanwhile, the license is immediately suspended, and alcohol sales are prohibited and will not be allowed at the store.
ABC agents post the suspension due to the store selling alcohol to 10 different people under the age of 21, including a 15-year-old, between September 2019 and September 2020. If the license is not transferred to an acceptable party within the six-month period, the license can be permanently revoked.
“There is no excuse for not checking the IDs of customers when selling alcohol,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Repeatedly selling alcohol to young people under 21 puts so many lives in danger. ABC agents work day in and night out to educate and enforce liquor laws. They conduct undercover investigations as well, all in an effort to keep our communities safe.”
