WILMINGTON– On March 17, 2021, California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents posted a 30-day-suspension notice at Amelia’s Club in the City of Wilmington. The business is prohibited from selling, serving and allowing consumption of alcoholic beverages for 30 days. In addition to the 30-day suspension, ABC has also placed the license on probation with an order of revocation stayed for a period of three years on condition that no cause for disciplinary action occur within the stayed period.
Undercover agents visited the location numerous times during an investigation and discovered violations that involved illegal drink solicitations. Such practices can contribute to the over-service of alcohol and possibly other violations of law. The violations found by ABC agents resulted in a 19-count-accusation filed against the licensee’s Type 40 On-Sale Beer License.
“It is not uncommon for undercover ABC agents to visit places that sell and/or serve alcohol,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Such undercover visits allow them to determine whether licensees and their employees are following the conditions of their license and being responsible about those they serve. Those investigations lead to the safety and protection of all of us.”
