MENLO PARK – On June 10, 2022, California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents and Menlo Park Police officers cited five clerks and/or servers for selling alcohol to a customer under 21 years of age.
Under the supervisions of agents and officers, a decoy under the age of 21 attempted to buy alcohol at 12 locations in Menlo Park and was successful at five of those places.
The penalty for selling alcohol to someone under 21 is a minimum fine of $250 and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for the first violation.
“There’s a reason for ABC agents and local officers to conduct these operations and it has to do public safety and the safety of our young people,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Preventing under age drinking is preventing things like DUI’s, personal injury, assaults and other crimes.”
