DELANO – On November 5, 2022, California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agents, along with officers from the Delano Police Department Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team cited four clerks for selling alcohol to underage customers. The citations were the result of a Minor Decoy operation in which decoys under the age of 21 attempted to purchase alcohol from 26 retail licensees in the City of Delano.
ABC can take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the business where the alcohol was sold to a minor. This may include, a fine, a suspension of the license, or the permanent revocation of the license.
The below establishments sold alcohol to the minor decoys, and the clerks were cited:
Chevron- 2322 Girard Street
Sunshine Market- 428 High Street
Wild Wings N Things- 550 Woollomes Avenue Unit #110
“It’s important that clerks ask to see identification and verify that the person they are selling alcohol to is 21 or older,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “ABC agents work with local law enforcement departments to conduct these operations in order to educate clerks and store owners, and to keep our communities safe.”
