AUBURN – On October 1, 2024, the Auburn Police Department announced the results of two operations it conducted with California ABC agents in September. One operation was a series of inspections at businesses where alcohol is sold and consumed, such as bars and restaurants. Eight locations were visited and each location was found to be in compliance with local laws and regulations.
The second operation was a minor decoy operation in which a person under the age of 21 attempts to purchase alcohol from retail businesses while law enforcement officers monitor the transaction to ensure the clerks are verifying ID before selling alcohol. Of the 14 businesses visited, a clerk at one downtown Auburn business sold alcohol to the decoy without asking for her ID or even asking her age. The clerk was cited for selling alcohol to a minor.
These operations were part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Alcohol Policing Partnership Grant.
“It is important for ABC agents to work with their local law enforcement partners to prevent underage drinking and to check that licensees are in compliance with laws and regulations. This contributes to our public safety and quality of life,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
