SACRAMENTO – On October 30, 2024, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) hosted a retirement lunch for Sal Martinez, an ABC agent, president of the association California Alcoholic Beverage Control Agents (CABCA), and a director at the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA).
Attending the lunch on behalf of CSLEA were President Alan Barcelona and CFO Ricardo Sanchez.
“I had the opportunity to speak to those in attendance and I spoke about what a decent and good man Agent Martinez is and thanked him for his public safety service,” said Barcelona. “Agent Martinez has been a dedicated law enforcement officers who is retiring after 28 years of State service, 17 as an ABC agent. In addition to his contributions to public safety, Agent Martinez has worked as a director on the CSLEA Board and as president of CABCA to further workers’ rights, pay, benefits, and retirement security for his colleagues. We know that can be time consuming and sometimes a thankless job when members aren’t privy to the complexities of union work.
“I also reflected on how this is the proper ending for Agent Martinez and his career. This proper, well-deserved, and earned ending was threatened years ago by a Sutter County district attorney who wanted to put Agent Martinez behind bars for an off-duty incident that required him to draw his weapon. I am pleased that CSLEA was able to be by his side during that time, successfully defend him and help him in retaining his law enforcement officer duties at ABC. Thank you, Sal, for leading the way for your fellow agents and all CSLEA members. We wish you the very best in your retirement. Enjoy.”
Agent Martinz was presented with his retirement badge, gun and shadow box.
Prior to working as an ABC agent, Martinez worked for California DMV, DSS, and the State Fair Police. He became president of CABCA and a CSLEA director in August 2022.
“My career with the State and in law enforcement has been a gratifying one and I appreciate all who have assisted me along the way,” said Martinez. “The decision to retire from my job as an ABC agent and to step away from union leadership will give me some well-sought-after time with my family. Thank you and stay safe.”
