EUREKA – On December 1, 2024, the Eureka Police Department, in conjunction with agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted a plain-clothes operation at off-sale ABC licensed locations.
While at Walmart in Eureka, the law enforcement officers made five arrests for theft-related crimes, five arrests for outstanding warrants, and one arrest for possession of a controlled substance.
The Eureka Police Department, in partnership with ABC, plans to continue conducting similar operations to promote public safety and limit youth access to alcohol.
Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a much higher risk of being involved in a crash than older drivers. About 25 percent of fatal crashes involve underage drinking according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from ABC through the department’s Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program.
