“Thank you to those who sell or serve alcohol and are diligent about checking IDs. It’s a simple thing and can prevent tragedies. Our thanks to California ABC agents for working to protect the public by enforcing ABC laws and assisting local law enforcement.”

OXNARD – The Oxnard Police Department, with assistance from California Alcoholic Beverage Control agents, cited a store clerk in the City of Oxnard for selling alcohol to a minor on January 25, 2025. The citation was the result of a minor decoy operation in which a decoy under the age of 21 and under the direct supervision of law enforcement officers, attempted to purchase alcohol from 10 retail licensees in the City of Oxnard.
The clerk who sold alcohol to the underage decoy faces a minimum fine of $250, and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation. In addition, ABC will take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the business where alcohol was sold to a minor. That may include a fine, a suspension of the license, or the permanent revocation of the license.
Compliance checks are being conducted statewide to reduce the availability of alcohol to those under the age of 21. Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a higher rate of drunk driving fatalities than the general adult population.
