OXNARD – On June 14, 2025, the Oxnard Police Department and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control conducted a minor decoy alcohol operation in the City of Oxnard. Under the direct supervision of officers and agents, the minor decoy attempted to purchase alcohol from six alcohol retail licensees. Agents and officers are happy to report that none of the retail outlets sold the minor alcohol and on several occasions the decoy was lectured by clerks on the safety of minors not consuming alcohol.
“Kudos! That’s a successful operation when every one of the clerks tested, checked the decoy’s ID and refused the sale of alcohol. Thank you to the law enforcement officers and underage volunteers who continue to target underage drinking. This work helps to keep our communities and travels safe,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona.
Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor could face a minimum fine of $250, and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation. In addition, ABC will take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the business where alcohol was sold to a minor. That may include a fine, a suspension of the license, or the permanent revocation of the license.
Compliance checks are conducted statewide to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a higher rate of drunk driving fatalities than the general adult population.
