CAMARILLO – On September 18, 2025, agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and the Camarillo Police Department Community Resources Unit (CRU) worked together on a minor decoy operation to see if any local businesses would sell alcohol to their underage decoy.
Under the direct supervision of agents and officers, the decoy attempted to purchase alcohol at 17 businesses. The decoy’s identification was checked at each location and the decoy was unable to purchase alcohol.
“That is what we call a very successful operation,” said California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) President Alan Barcelona. “Thank you to the decoy who volunteered time, to the agents and officers who conducted the operation, and to all clerks and servers who are careful to check IDs. This works to keep our communities safer.” During these operations, the underage decoy is always truthful about age and presents a California driver’s license or California identification card when asked.
Those who violate California Business and Professions Code 25658(a) / Furnishing Alcoholic Beverage to a Minor, face a minimum fine of $250.00 and twenty-four to thirty-two hours of community service for a first violation. Local business establishments that sell alcohol to minors risk losing their alcohol sales license and face possible additional fines.
